About Taekwondo World

Taekwondo World is a Black Belt School. Our goal is to provide the finest physical and personal development program for men and women of all ages (over 5 years of age), helping them achieve the rank of Black Belt. Then our goal becomes helping them continuing the journey, finding the deeper meaning, the "do" in their Taekwondo practice, and achieving the personal and spiritual depth that is signified by the advanced degrees of Black Belt. In this regard, our program at Taekwondo World - Dayton, does provide students with training on the sport side of taekwondo, namely, olympic sparring. And participation in certain competitions is encouraged. However, sport is thought of as only one aspect of the whole of taekwondo. We are dedicated to presenting the whole and to achieving the Black Belt on that basis.

The "whole" we speak of, enables us to include students in there senior years - our oldest student currently is 85 years old. There are several students in their 70's and 60's. Students seek enrollment here to get a non-competitive physical work out, to learn self-defense, to develop personal confidence and discipline. A significant accomplishment for long term students is their achievement of a sense of committment and their acheivement of leadership skills. There is a constant reflection in all class on the meaning of practice and its relevance/application to daily life at home, at school, at work and in the comunity at large.

Our student body is approximately 50% children, 75% families and more than 1/3 female. There is considerable synergy in every class because of that mix.

A very outstanding accomplishment of the school is the number of its Black Belt graduates who are pursuing advanced ranks. Currently, 55 Black Belts are actively involved in their own individual practice and in assisting others achieve their goals. Click here to view the gallery of currently active Black Belts.

Taekwondo World is the "now generation" of the taekwondo program that was brought to Dayton by Grandmaster Young Chi Kim in 1963. Thirty years later, in 1993, Grandmaster Kim moved to Atlanta, Georgia. The program then came under the ownership and direction of his long-time student, then a 3rd Degree Black Belt, Mr. George Bleil.

Taekwondo - the average monthly tuition for the first member of the family is about $75 monthly (based on attendance 2x weekly).
Power Yoga - $60 monthly is the fee for unlimited attendance in the Yoga program but it covers a minimum of 10 classes.
Cardio/Defense - $45 monthly is the fee for unlimited attendance in the Yoga program but it covers a minimum of 10 classes.

Taekwondo World is a member of World Taekwondo Federation (WTF). Grandmaster Y. C. Kim holds the rank of 9th Degree, and Master Bleil is certificated at 5th Degree. The WTF represents 180 million practitioners in 120 countries on every continent and promotes to the world all the benefits of Taekwondo both as a martial art and as a sport. The WTF is headquartered at the Kukkiwon in Seoul, South Korea.

The school has been a member of the United States Taekwondo Union (USTU) since that organization was founded and was recognized as the official U.S. representative of the sport of Taekwondo to the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), which in turn represents it to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
