Fifty Years of Service to the World of Taekwondo
(June 5, 1940 to April 4, 2003)
Grandmaster Young Chi Kim devoted more than 50 years to the study and teaching of martial arts. He was a Kukkiwon certified 9th degree black belt and founder of the Taekwondo World program. He was featured in the media on programs such as "That's Incredible"on ABC-TV, PM Magizine on NBC-TV, CBS National News, Self Fitness Magazine, Leisure Magazine and other various newspapers nationwide. He was also the Founder of the U.S. Professional Taekwondo Federation to promote the spirit of the sport of taekwondo. His Philosophy, the philosophical foundation for Taekwondrobics is a system of exercises taken from the Eastern Tradition. In that tradition, well-being is viewed hollistically. Exercise, therefore, is not just a physical activity with physical benefits. It is a practical exercise providing the basis for personal confidence and safety. It is a mental exercise in which every motion is meaningful and worthy of consideration. It is a social exercise, whether practiced privately or in groups, that benefits the entire society. It is a beautiful exercise having intrinsic aesthetic value of its own.
His life-long mission was:
- To bring the benefits of TaekwonDo to an increasing number of health conscious people around the world.
- To provide the finest instructor training and certification program, Dan (black belt) and Geup (under black belt) certification.
- To provide a network for ongoing personal and professional support to instructors.
- To provide practitioners with the latest information in the areas of health, fitness and Martial Art.
In his fifty years of service, he accomplished the following:
- Member of the U.S. Taekwondo Union (1973 to 1992)
- U.S. Taekwondo Union Coach of the Year (1985)
- World Taekwondo Federeation Tournament Committee Chairman (1987)
- Technical Director of Pan American Union (1985 to 1987)
- Indianapolis Pan American Games Taekwondo Team Manager (1987)
- United States Taekwondo Union Vice President (1988 to 1992)
- Coach for medal winning Olympians and World Champions (1988)
- President of Taekwondo World Franchise Company (1992)
- Taekwonrobics presented to IDEA World Convention (1993 and 1994)
- Taekwonrobics demonstrated at Junior Olympics (1993)
- Director of Junior Olympics (1993)
- Founder of Taekwonrobics (1993)
- Founder and President of the U.S Professional Taekwondo Federation (1997)
